Onda Vision Technologies, Inc. Awarded Competitive Grant from the National Science Foundation

Small Business Innovation Research Program Provides Seed Funding for R&D

Raleigh, NC, 04/27/2020 – Onda Vision Technologies, Inc. has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to address the problem of early recognition of exertional heat illness in sports to enhance player safety and maximize performance.

The broader impact/commercial potential of this Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I project introduces a paradigm shift from reaction-based methods to a proactive-based approach to predict the onset of exertional heat illness, which results when the human body fails to maintain core temperature within a narrow range (33.2℃-38.2℃). Under Phase I, Onda Vision will develop a novel low-cost wearable hydration sensor, coupled with predictive analytics, to monitor and report changes in an athlete’s hydration state. Our Cover-2 Platform will help mitigate athlete injuries, reduce medical costs, and minimize the risk of long-term adverse health conditions.

“NSF is proud to support the technology of the future by thinking beyond incremental developments and funding the most creative, impactful ideas across all markets and areas of science and engineering,” said Andrea Belz, Division Director of the Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships at NSF. “With the support of our research funds, any deep technology startup or small business can guide basic science into meaningful solutions that address tremendous needs.”
